Lungworm in dogs

Lungworm is becoming more prevalent in the UK and as vets we are seeing more and more cases. Your dog is at risk of catching lungworm if it has contact with slugs or snails.

Lungworm infections can be serious or even fatal if left untreated and although they can cause a cough or breathing difficulties the effected pets can also show other symptoms too.

Pets may show just one or more of the following symptoms:

  • A cough or breathing difficulties.
  • Weight loss.
  • Unexplained bruising or bleeding.
  • Seizures.
  • Collapse or shock.
  • Blindness.

Prevention is better than cure, please contact the surgery to see if your worming treatment covers for lungworm – 0121 643 4324

Meet Taz, he is a Japanese Akita who arrived at our Solihull site around a month ago. He was recently neutered, and it was noted by our nursing team at his post op check that he had unusual bruising around his op site following his procedure. A blood test was performed at the clinic which can detect if lungworm is present, the result came back positive. He has received treatment and is doing really well.
